Community Involvement - Sunbury Shores
Square Foot Fundraiser
While Jan and Andrea were on the board of Sunbury Shores, they worked on several fundraisers. One of these, conceived of by Jan was the Square Foot fundraiser.
- Came up with the Square Foot fundraiser - a way to raise funds for the centre while protecting the centre's nature trail.
- Designed "deeds" and a package for donors.
- Designed a web site and all promotional materials to attract donors and accept donations.
- Donated 200 prints of St. Andrews - painted by Geoff - to accompany the deeds.
Concept: Sunbury Shores Arts & Nature Centre, owns an 11.4 acre parcel of land with 575 feet of frontage on Joe's Point Road, in St. Andrews. Part of the Two Meadows Nature Trail runs through this parcel of land which was purchased by Sunbury Shores in 1966 from Mrs. McKenzie with a small loan from the local bank.
For $50.00, a donor could purchase a novelty deed for a square foot of land in St. Andrews by-the-Sea. Between the launch in December 2009, to spring 2012, nearly $34,000 was raised. The fundraiser is ongoing.
